Polk county's having a parvo outbreak this year. I've already lost 2 pups before i could finish em out on theyre shots. My strike dog pup finally started to turn on hard found out yesterday he was positive also. He on iv at the vet hope he pulls through. If your unsure of the last vaccine on a dog get a 7way shot for em thats the only way theyre safe hope nobody else gets it.

My vet told me that it passed through the stool of a dog. If a fly lands on infected feces then gets on your dog it can get the virus if the immunity of your dog is low.

All I know is if you have had it on your property once you will ALWAYS have it. Sucks! They say 10 years but from all the dog men I know it is forever on that same property it was on. It is passed from people being around sick dogs " Knowing or not knowing " or ground that had sick dogs and brought it to you or your property or bringing a sick dog home or your dogs hunting with a sick dog.. Not Airborne. Bleaching wooden pens will help but will not get rid of it. Burn the pens or get rid of them. not worth the chance to me if your still going to be in the dog game. seen people bleach wooden pens and still wonder years later why they have a sick litter every once in a while. wood soaks in liquids and holds bacteria and disease. Bleach can't totally disinfect wood. I know first hand dealing with it once 19 years ago. It does not mean you can't have dogs any more but you need to change the way you do things. It sucks! I had it with Rotties and before I had concrete pens, Lost the entire litter. I had 1 pup at the vets and by the time I got home the rest were vomiting and had bloody diarrhea. Had to put them all down and the one at the vets died 2 days later. vet said people most likely brought it to my house from looking at a sick litter of pups and then came and handled mine. Found out later that is what happened. Pups had 1st set of shots but waited like the law minimum said until 8 weeks. I think a lot of people confuse that with what they should do and A LOT of vets with tell you that is the way to do it also. They are slowly changing. Health certificates are USELESS in my opinion. On that same property I poured concrete and Bleach became my new best friend. Lived their 6 years after and had a lot of dogs, none sick. Puppies did not touch the ground until they had their second shot's." Still don't " vet told me to start shots at 5 weeks old and give a total of 4, Not 3. Not to mix 5 way and 7 way shots. Stay with what you start out with. I did not walk into my pens without spraying my feet and hands with bleach and no one touched my puppies with out doing the same before the second shots. I have continued these things along with weekly bleaching of all pens as well as yearly booster shots. Jeffers like Boarhog 1 mentioned can be your best friend if used right. Don't skimp on overnight shipping, If shots get warm they are NO GOOD. They will take them back if your not satisfied. I have sent shots back before. That is the scary part with getting them at feed stores, You don't know if they got them warm and figured they were alright and just put them in the fridge. it's only business to them and a job to someone handling them. I have even seen puppies look fine until they got their first shot at 8 weeks and be sick with in 24 hours of the short. Like heart worms and giving a dog that is infected showing no signs some ivermec and the next day being dead. The shots brings it out of a infected pup carrying the disease. I am sorry for anyone that has to deal with it, not a pretty sight and a smell you will NEVER forget. it is also nothing anyone does on purpose, Knowledge and experience unfortunately is the only way to prevent it again. tell everyone you can and hopefully you can help someone else from going thru what you have. I pray your dogs come thru this and stay strong. Good luck, Hope this helps.
