im getting ready to start training 2 five month old male treeing walker cross pups and was just wanting some input on the does and donts. i am starting from scratch and i havent been hog hunting or traing hog dogs in about 4 years so my mind aint working or may i just have C.R.S. syndrome (cant remember sh!?)
Top Do's 1. Introduce Hog scent early and often. hog hoof, tails, ears, meat 2. Introduce live hogs in controlled setting early and often. Pen, yard, woods 3. Take young dog with your best dogs that do what you want the younger dogs to do. 4. Train one pup at a time in the woods. Otherwise they'll play. 5. Once they have "grown and shown interest" put them out first in fresh sign, try to make every trip with a pup a successful one. Don't take them on the trips when you are unsure hogs are present. 6. Put them on different hogs each time. if possible in controlled situations 7. Always stop them before they lose interest in pen. 8. Keep dogs in kennel, not in the yard! 9. Kennel pup with finished dogs. 10. Put them in the woods as much as possible and don't give up on a dog that ain't doing it. It can change in one hunt.

Don'ts 1. If the dog can't or won't load up, don't take em to the woods. 2. Don't put young dogs on Hogs too big for them. Build confidence as long as you can hold out. 3. Don't allow playing, dog aggression or using their teeth after "Caught Hog" 4. Always end your pen bay with legging the hog, flipping it and praise. Don't underestimate this one! Pups learn this is the conclusion and therefore success. 5. Don't expect the young dog to do something when you haven't spent the time to teach them. 6. Don't pet, talk to the dogs during initial hunts in the woods. Bore them with neglect until they get to hunting. 7. Don't restrict them early on with vests. 8. Don't overwork young dogs. Keep them hydrated. Don't make it a bad experience. 9. Don't kennel or transport your pups with catch dogs. Unless you are sure! 10. Don't take all my Do's and Don'ts to0 literally. Every dog is different. Every Hunter has his own way of doing things. Keep a positive attitude. Noone will know your dogs like you. I learn something every day from other hunters around the world. Once you get to the point where you have good dogs, Keep them real close to you.

I'm sure others will add to it. Put the time in.. Just like anything else..... If you really want to make a dog, eventually you will. Good Luck. Anytime I can help, I will.
Feed em hog tracks ....You can get a bag of them at wal mart #100lbs for 25 bucks haha ...seriously feed em hog tracks in the woods every chance you get they wont learn in the kennel ...but like CH said take one pup at a time till they aint pups no more cause they will play and you are wasting their time and yours
Don't put um in a pin unless yer introducing them for the first time , u don't one pin dogs u want woods dogs I take hogs twice size of my pups tie 2x4 to a leg and let the hog run out bout 50 yds then letthe dogs loose to work there nose and learn trailing after a few months of that I take the 2x4 off and let hog go on its own by 6 to 8 months my pups are usually workin um and keepin um bayed pretty good , but that's. Only the begining there's still a lot of work to be done here lil vid of it these pups are 3 months old
