Well after my hunt last Wednesday I soon realized that my tusk dog had been snake bit. He was bit on the top of the head between his ears. More than likely while moving a track. He didn't swell up until a couple days later but it swole the whole right side of his head and swole his eye shut. I can only imagine it was a water moccasin since it didn't kill him. The spot where I seen the puncture marks busted open and the puss is slowly draining out and the swelling is starting to go down. There is so much water everywhere I hunt, so it will be full of snakes as it starts to get hotter. I usually hunt at night as the chances of snake encounters are less but seeing that one of my dogs already got hit in March makes me worry about this summer. Needless to say I will be wearing snake proof hip waders all summer.

Was at my sons on Sunday and looked out back and seen a snake heading for his dog pen. Ended up climbing in the tree right next to the pen and got away before I could get it. I lost a really nice AB stud dog a year and a half ago to a snake here at the house. Sucks.

Lee was it a rattle snake or a water moccasin? I have seen several of our hounds snake bit by moccasins and swell up like this but live and then I have seen one that got hit by a rattle snake and die in 2 hrs

Coral we think. Seen one the day before it happened. But have other types you mentioned also. Seen dogs bit by pygmy Rattlers that lived. What ever one it was it only took about 3 hours from the last time I seen him until I went to feed and found him. Not a pretty sight. This was him. Henderson's Eli. Finished 2nd Place at the NKC AB nationals in Alabama about a year before it happened.

That was a good looking bulldog lee. Hog doggin in fl definitely ain't for the weak heart! If it ain't a hog it's going to be a snake, gator or the heat.

We have had several of our deer hounds bit by rattle snakes and moccasins and I always give 2 asprin and a shot of penicillin and keep them in a small pen so they don't move around much and luckily they have always pulled through and back to hunting in 2-3 days

You would probably like the other ones I have then. Your right. I have lost one to all 3 you listed at least once. Not a matter of If, Just when.
